What We Do

Therapeutic Consultation Services - Developmental Disability Waivers (DD)

The Developmental Disability (DD) waivers are offered to both children and adults with various levels of intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. There are a multitude of services and supports offered under each waiver, depending on individualized needs and program criteria met. Therapeutic consultation service through the DD Waiver means professional consultation provided by members of psychology, social work, rehabilitation engineering, behavior analysis/consultation, speech-language pathology therapy, occupational therapy, psychiatry, psychiatric clinical nursing, therapeutic recreation, or physical therapy disciplines that are designed to assist individuals, parents, guardians, family members, and any other providers of support services with implementing the individual support plan.  Individuals that currently receive the Virginia Community Living (CL) or the Family and Individual Support (FIS) Waiver can receive therapeutic consultation services.

We provide INDIRECT SERVICES:

Indirect Service means services which include ongoing progress reviews; cooperative planning; consultation; demonstration teaching; modification and adaptation of the environment, curriculum, materials, or equipment; and direct contact with the pupil to monitor and observe. Indirect services may be provided by a related services professional to another regular education, special education teacher, related services professional, paraprofessional, support staff, parents, and public and nonpublic agencies to the extent that the services are written in the client’s ISP.

Physical therapy consultation shall only be provided by a physical therapist who is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia.

What does a physical therapist do?

A physical therapist will develop a customized set of exercises and movements to help you move your body. They’ll help you:

  • Manage pain.
  • Improve your range of motion (how far you can move a part of your body).
  • Manage symptoms of a health condition that affects your mobility.
  • Recover from injuries and prevent future damage.

What kinds of conditions does a physical therapist treat?

Physical therapists can treat any issue that makes it hard for you to move or use your body.

A healthcare provider might suggest you see a physical therapist to treat common conditions, including:

  • Back pain.
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome.
  • Urinary incontinence.
  • Trigger finger and trigger thumb.
  • Lymphedema.

You might need to work with a physical therapist after an injury or trauma, especially if you’ve experienced:

  • A spinal cord injury.
  • Rotator cuff tears.
  • Knee ligament injuries (like ACL tears).
  • Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders.
  • Concussions.
  • Sports injuries.

Physical therapists also treat long-term (chronic) conditions that make it hard to move, including:

  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
  • Cerebral palsy.
  • Multiple sclerosis (MS).
  • Muscular dystrophy.
  • Parkinson’s disease.
  • Cystic fibrosis.

  • Building Independence (BI),

Our Experience

Why Us?

Our Physical Therapist, Robin Langerhans DPT,  will provide a Final Support Plan (FSP) as a plan of care for that discipline.

A therapeutic consultation service support plan is the report of recommendations resulting from a therapeutic consultation that is developed by the professional consultant TEAM after they spend time with the individual to determine the individual's needs in his area of expertise.

Our therapeutic consultation service means professional consultation provided by applicable members of our physical therapy team.
